Students participate in various activities, including creating memes on mathematical topics, engaging in collaborative discussions, and problem-solving, to explore how these influence their learning and group dynamics. Two dimensions are analysed: the interaction of memes and the students&#8217; <strong>Mathematics Capital <\/strong>(MC) and their <strong>Perceived Class Cohesion <\/strong>(PCC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><i class=\"icon fa fa-bell\" aria-hidden=\"true\"> <\/i><strong> Why is this topic relevant today?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The topic is particularly timely as schools are increasingly facing the challenge of improving outcomes in mathematics while also engaging students in digital culture. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/pisa-framework.oecd.org\/science-2025\/ita_ita\"><i><strong>PISA Science Framework 2025<\/strong><\/i><\/a>, building <strong>scientific capital<\/strong>\u2014the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that enable students to tackle scientific issues\u2014is essential for preparing them to thrive in a technology-driven society. At the same time, as highlighted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2023\/12\/11\/teens-social-media-and-technology-2023\/\"><strong>Pew Research Center<\/strong><\/a>, digital platforms are at the core of how today&#8217;s youth communicate and construct their identities. Exploring how <strong>mathematical memes<\/strong> can connect these two areas allows us to enhance mathematical learning by leveraging students&#8217; cultural and technological competencies, fostering both academic success and social cohesion in the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><i class=\"icon fa fa-asl-interpreting\" aria-hidden=\"true\"> <\/i><strong> Why analyse Mathematics Capital and Perceived Class Cohesion?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysing students&#8217; <strong>Mathematical Capital<\/strong> (MC) and their <strong>Perceived Class Cohesion<\/strong> (PCC) is crucial for understanding how these factors influence both academic performance and the sense of belonging within the group. Through the study of <strong>mathematical memes<\/strong>, we can explore how students use digital culture to engage with complex mathematical concepts, thereby strengthening their cultural capital. Furthermore, the creation and sharing of memes foster a greater sense of social cohesion within the class, enhancing group dynamics and active participation.
